About

Welcome to Fell Stars, Fated Skies, a FE3H Astrology book. Our team aims to create a collaborative, half-charity, half-profit project featuring art, stories and merchandise. We are currently planning to offer both physical and digital products.

Our theme is the Western Zodiac signs in regards to the Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters. We will be representing them through their main sun sign, and the different characteristics of these signs that are highlighted in them. Each contributor will be tasked to depict one character in relation to their sun sign.

This book will include a section which will describe each sign in-depth through explanations and breakdowns, in their different placements (sun, moon, rising, etc…).

This book also aims to:
Teach its readers about astrology through a fun and engaging lens, Be accessible to everyoneCome with all the tools you’ll need to properly analyze the skies you were born under!

Frequently asked questions

Q: Do you have an official FAQ document?

We have a slightly more detailed info document you can check out here.

Q: What’s the format of the project?
Digital & Physical Zine and Merch Physical book will be B5, full colour, perfect bound.Merch is currently planned to include: a personalized A5 notebook, printable star charts and planner sheets, stickers, charms, and washi tape, but is subject to change.Half-charity, Half Profit model
Q: How will contributors be rewarded?
All contributors will be compensated with a free PDF of the book and any digital merchAs we aim to follow a half-profit, half-charity model, contributors have the option of trading part of their cut for a physical book or bundle. This cut will be calculated at wholesale price. Ideally, we’d generate enough proceeds to provide our contributors with a full bundle and shipping, or the monetary equivalent. No matter what, contributors will be allowed to buy additional books and merchandise at wholesale prices.
Q: How will you communicate with your contributors and team?
We will use a zine-specific Discord server. We require participants to have or create a Discord account, as we will be making announcements, communicating deadlines, and keeping a general eye on the progress of each piece through Discord. We will send reminders for check-ins through emails, but the check-ins themselves will be conducted through Discord.
Q: Do I have to know a lot about Astrology to apply?
Applicants do not have to be knowledgeable in astrology to apply! Each character will be depicted through specific characteristics of their canon sun sign, which will be decided upon by our astrology mods.

For example, we will ask people to depict specific Leo qualities for Claude, Yuri, Leonie... through their piece (such as creativity, warm-heartedness, arrogance...).

Q: Do I need to come up with pitches to apply?
Not unless you're applying to be a Merch Artist. We only ask for character and star sign preferences. Pitch assignments will happen during the creation process.

Q: Will there be NSFW content in the book?

This book will be strictly SFWWe will allow no depiction of sex scenes and no extreme violenceMild nudity, suggestive scenes, and canon-typical violence are permitted
Q: Are ships allowed in this book?

Depictions of implied relationships will be allowed if the assigned character remains the focus of the piece, but will have to be approved by the mods beforehand.

Q: Will the pieces all be set in canon?

This book is intended to be mostly canon-compliant; however, if a contributor has an amazing, alternate-universe idea for the characters, we definitely will allow it to be featured!

Q: Will I be able to post or sell my finished piece?

All the contributors will be allowed to post their finished piece on their platforms and use them for their portfolios two months after physical orders have been sent out. The contributors will only be allowed to sell their finished piece after leftover sales have been published and shipped.
Q: What about the Fell Star Zine? Are you from the same team?

Nope! Fell Star is a fanzine about Byleth, currently in its creation period; we are in no way affiliated with the project. Please do give them a look if you’re interested in Byleth content!

Q: I have a question that wasn’t answered in this carrd.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Make sure the schedule of the book lines up with yours. It’s completely alright to suddenly become busy in the middle of the project - life happens in unpredictable ways! - but for the mods’ sake, please be mindful of your own availability. Do you have any deadlines that clash with our schedule? Are there ways you can address this?Read this Carrd carefully: all the general information about the theme requirements, the specs of your pieces and our book, but also our preferred methods of communication are on this Carrd. As a reminder, since we will be going for a half-charity, half-profit finance model, minors will not be allowed to earn money from their contribution, according to child labor laws. If you’re a minor and apply to this project, please remember you will have to give all of your for-profit portion to charity. You will ideally be compensated with a full printed copy of the book, as well as some free merch depending on the profit share. Applicants do not have to be knowledgeable in astrology to apply! Each character will be depicted through specific characteristics of their canon sun sign, which will be decided upon by our astrology mods. You may apply for more than one position, but each applicant can only be accepted for one position at most.On the application form, please make sure to read every question and subtitle carefully before answering and submitting your app. Don’t worry if it takes you a few days to answer properly or choose your best samples! Contact us on CuriousCat or Twitter if you wish to amend your application.

Zine Content

This book will include a section which will describe each sign in-depth through explanations and breakdowns, in their different placements (sun, moon, rising, etc…). The book will be split into elements, and then again into signs.

Each sign will be represented by a few contributors. Contributors to depict their character’s sign through characteristics that our astrology mod has chosen, the full version of which is available in our character spreadsheet.

Depicting a character in relation to their sign must have them showcase at least one of the qualities in question, whether in a literal or metaphorical way. For example, one could draw Sylvain playing a game of chess to show quick-wittedness, or chatting up women to showcase his charming and entertaining side. You could also represent him in relation to masks for deceitfulness, or have him look into a mirror for literal Gemini imagery.

We’ve summarised what kind of content we will expect from our contributors below:

ARTISTS

PAGE ARTISTS:
Page artists will be asked to provide one drawing/painting of at least 1024 x 1024px, 300 dpi. They can draw either a full page or a full spread. Templates will be provided.

MERCH ARTISTS:
Merch artists will be asked to design one to two pieces of merch each. The exact formats we will feature will depend on the outcome of applications, but they will include at least one charm, a couple of stickers, printable sheets, and a notebook cover.

WRITERS

PROSE WRITERS:
Writers will be asked to provide one piece ranging from 1.000 to 2.000 words maximum. Any tense is fine but pieces must be in third-person POV limited. Since they will be asked to write about a specific character, side characters are allowed to appear, but should not be a too-prominent part of the piece.
POETS:
Poets will be asked to provide two to three short poems, each comprising ten lines at maximum. The form of the poem is up to the poets: from iambic pentameter, to a short sonnet, to a freeform poem or a haiku. The poets will be asked to write about the characteristics of a specific sign, which they can write from whichever point of view they’d like, including a specific character.
CONTRIBUTOR NUMBERS
Our prototype spot numbers before we closed applications were: 35 to 40 contributor spots, consisting of 25 artists, 5 to 10 writers and poets, and 5 merch artists. As we review applications and start assigning characters/signs and reconfirm our maximum page count, we may shift these numbers around a little, and maybe add a couple of extra spots in.
